Jason Barger closed TedX Columbus by challenging us to change the world.

Witnessing a family forming a “human wall of entitlement” as they blocked the baggage claim area inspired suggestion that we step back from the baggage claim.  Sometimes we form the human wall of entitlement.  No one can see the bags.  Everyone jostles back and forth trying to claim their space and find their bags.

Stepping back from the baggage claim is seeing the bigger perspective, seeing other people, putting a spirit of service into motion in the world instead of entering those spaces with a spirit of entitlement.

Jason explains that all of us are running at a fast pace in our lives.  We’re racing from place to place, in a culture that honors business.   Are we even aware that maybe we’re distracted? Are we aware that we’re not moving through the world in the spirit that we would like to?   In those moments we need to step back from the baggage claim and think about why we’re doing what we’re doing.

Today is a step back from the baggage claim moment for all of us.   What are we going to choose to do the minute we step away from our seats today?

Today is not about drive-through inspiration.  Today is about connecting the Human family and the spirit we choose to share with the metaphorical baggage claims we encounter in our families, communities and businesses.

What’s Next?
The next time you’re around that baggage claim (metaphorical or real) remember the impact you can have and that you can change the world.    I hope I am up to the challenge.
